It started as a joke, but now the US Air Force has told the public not to approach Area 51.

More than a million people have sent a message about their presence at an event on Facebook, threatening to storm the ultra-secret base in Nevada, known to see aliens.

After all this buzz, an Air Force spokeswoman told the Washington Post she was “ready to protect America and its assets.”

Jackson Barnes, a Facebook user, and participant at this event, wrote on the event’s page: “Hello, US government, it’s a joke, and I do not really intend to continue this project “.

“I just thought it would be funny and I could get useless information on the internet, I’m not responsible if people decide to storm area 51.”

But the air force does not see the funny side.

“[Area 51] is an open training field for the US Air Force, and we would discourage anyone from trying to enter the area where we train the US Armed Forces,” the spokeswoman said.
